Giving
Spring Meadow Resources provides a variety of services to individuals with disabilities in the Helena area. However, being a non-profit agency funded by the Montana Department of Health and Human Services has its limitations. There are things that this funding will not cover. As an example, should an individual require special adaptive equipment outside the approved equipment offered, the individual must find his or her own way to purchase the prescribed adaptive equipment. The Frances Dwyer Endowment was set up for such an instance.
Another example of something not covered through DPHHS funding is recreation on a more personal level. Some of our folks never had the chance to camp in a sleeping bag in a tent in a safe recreation area. Often the individual with a disability becomes a target of scorn or interest when all that person wants to do is recreate like everyone else. Spring Meadow Resources is fortunate to have a 30 acre park with a 1 acre pond on its’ corporate property. We are developing this into a fully accessible picnic area and campground, with fishing, boating, bird watching, wildlife viewing, and recreation for those with disabilities. To date, this effort has seen a safe and accessible dock and walkway to the water built, picnic tables and benches placed around the property, a weed eradication program installed with the help of Montana State University and the local Extension Office, and pond water improvement through a wind driven pump that moves air through the water keeping it healthier. Plans for pond improvement this summer include bringing water and power to the area.
To pay for this work, Spring Meadow Resources is selling fish plaques in 3 different sizes that may be engraved with the name of a loved one as a memorial to that person. The fish will be mounted on a heavy mesh wall that will fill one side of the dock rail. We will have photos of this project and other pond projects as they occur.
If you are interested in helping us help the people we serve, in bringing accessible opportunities to these folks, please call Spring Meadow Resources at 443.2376.
We provide additional information on both these giving programs on this web site.
